The Mary S. Sigourney Award Trust was established pursuant to the will of Mary Singleton Sigourney, who died in 1988. It is an independent private foundation managed by two Trustees. Mary Sigourney's purpose was to recognize past achievements by individuals and organizations which constitute significant contributions to psychoanalysis and to thereby encourage activity in the field. The Trust does not fund future activities.
Established in 1989, the Trust grants awards annually in recognition of distinguished contributions to the field of psychoanalysis. Awards may be given to individuals for original psychoanalytic work, scholarly achievement, contribution to the field of education and for significant influence in the field of psychoanalytic thought and practice. Psychoanalytic institutes and societies and other organizations may also be eligible for the Award, based on outstanding achievement in psychoanalytic education and research. The Award includes a substantial cash prize. The first Awards were made in 1990. A complete list of those who have received the Award appears at Past Recipients.
