The Award may be made to one or more persons who is at the time a citizen and resident of a country within the area eligible for consideration, who in the opinion of the judges, has published or contributed in a significant or major way to clinical psychoanalysis or psychoanalytical research including their application to the field of medicine or other sciences including psychiatry or psychotherapy and who has performed a significant portion of that work in the country of which he or she is a citizen and resident. The Award may also be made to one or more educational or scientific organizations which sponsor the development of methodology in psychoanalysis or which create new interest in that field and which are located in an eligible country. Work performed during the preceding ten years will be considered for the Award.
No person who has served as a Trustee of the Mary S. Sigourney Award Trust shall ever be eligible for the Award. No person is eligible for the Award who is serving, or has served during the year preceding the Award, as an officer of The American Psychoanalytic Association, any other national psychoanalytic association, or The International Psychoanalytic Association.
